In part two of Carlson's Blooded series, the only female werewolf in the world is on a mission to rescue her mate, a werecat (of an as yet unidentified genus) with barely a cameo role in this installment. She's fighting a powerful goddess and there are stakes beyond saving her dude, like preventing a war between supernatural sects.

Dead Ever After
You know I love the Sookie Stackhouse series, right?, but like with so many endings to television series, the finale was a bit of a disappointment. I'm okay with who Sookie ended up with, but the whole book was a set-up for it, and there were lots of loose ends unnecessarily tied up.

Frost Burned
I didn't sleep for even a minute on my cross-country flight, which left JFK at 9pm and landed at SFO more than six hours later at midnight and change. Most of the time I was too busy reading Frost Burned, the latest entry in the Mercy Thompson series. (Note to Loud Melissa: you really need to get started on these, now that you've caught up with The Hollows!)

Blood Trail
This time our visually impaired private detective is tracking a killer of werewolves, which she didn't even know existed until the end of the first chapter, and she's doing so in rural Ontario. A lot of times I didn't entirely follow Huff's connections, but I still found the book compelling and am intrigued enough by the hint that a cop character could be transgender that I'll read the third installment.
