Eric and I are hoping to adopt a cat and a kitten in the next few weeks. Until I can once get my hands on a furry little belly and worship a triangle nose, I'm occupying my kitty lust by coming up with names. I know we should wait and see what the animals are like before we name them, but I figure if people can determine their baby's name before they meet him/her, I can at least brainstorm some possibilities for our future felines.
Below is a list of the ideas we've come up with so far, and I hope y'all will comment on them and contribute some more.
- Macaroni & Meat
This is a meal Eric's mother used to prepare. He now makes a vegetarian version of it that apparently is much improved.
Our recently departed godlike angel cat's name was Partners, which was a joke about the company Eric worked for when he found Partners on Pitt St., so names like this one, "Company," "Inc.," etc. are all good.
madness in Spanish
strike in Spanish
damn, and other things in Spanish, at least according to the translations on DVDs we watch
- I don't care if it's a girl
Eric has a bias against any cat that isn't a giant male tabby, but one of the kittens we're considering is so beautiful, Eric is tempted to abandon his bigoted ways.
spring in Spanish. I love spring.
summer in Spanish. I love summer.
the Spanglish name of our neighborhood, in particular, Avenue C
after Ellen Moynihan who adopted a stray who turned out to be pregnant
same, but also after Colin Moynihan, Ellen's brother and Eric's close friend who forwarded the news about the seven kittens
Eric doesn't know this, but I came up with the name while reading a book about a witch detective who arms herself with a "splat gun" full of charms
- Kosta Boda
the brand of candle holders sent to us from Sweden by a colleague of Eric's
- Espresso kitty
I don't remember the why on this one. Must have to do with Eric's coffee addiction.
Be aware, Eric has a preference that the name be something he's not embarrassed to say to a vet, not that all of the above meet that criterion...
UPDATE 5/11--Here's another batch of potential names:
- Hostile Cabbage
there must have been a reason, but I have no idea what it was
the stop on the L train to get to the kitten's current house
my sister's Indian name from the ashram when we were kids
blame it on Star Trek Voyager
joy, en español
- Yonah Schimmel
