The protagonist, known as Connie or La Americana, not Anna (?) is born in Germany, moved to the US with her mother when she was a kid, and then to Cuba with her mother and stepfather when she was a teen. I read an ARC I got at ALA or otherwise acquired who-knows-how (maybe from Celia). I'm not sure if the published version is printed in color, but it seems okay in black and white, unlike the last graphic ARC I read. Veltfort is a revolutionary...and a lesbian. She believes in the cause, but the cause isn't that into her. It's neat (and appalling) to read about the queer underground in 1960s & 1970s Cuba.
