When a Mexican girl shows up at an exclusive LA private school mid-year, everyone assumes she's on scholarship. In reality Cammi's family is loaded because of her telenovela star mom and her voiceover actor dad. Having grown up with everyone knowing who she and her family were, Cammi is so shocked by her classmates' assumptions--and the fact that all-of-a-sudden she's brown--that she kind of...goes with it.
This is an issue book that raises important points, but I think isn't as successful with its plot and conflict points. I'd be interested in reading the same story from the perspective of just about any of the characters, though.
