Radical Cataloging: Essays at the Front, edited by K.R. Roberto, which is coming out this summer now has its Table of Contents online. My article, which I'll sooner or later post here in its pre-print version is "AACR2—Bendable but Not Flexible: Cataloging Zines at Barnard College."
Likely highlights from the book, judging from their clever titles, or the fact that I admire the author include
- an introduction by Sandy Berman, "Cataloging Reform, LC, and Me"
- "The Existential Crisis of a Cataloger," by Beth Thornton
I just like the title - "This Subfield Kills Fascists: A Highly Selective, Slightly Irreverent Trip Down Radical Cataloging Literature Lane," by Brian Hasenstab
I just love the title. Plus I know Brian from zines and radical librarian stuff. - "Swine—Juvenile Literature?: Good Cataloging vs. Good Public Service," by John Sandstrom
- "Cults, New Religious Movements, and Bias in LC Subject Headings," by Tracy Nectoux
Tracy is a member of Radical Reference - "Who Moved My Pinakes? Cataloging and Change," by Tina Gross
for it's use of the word "pinakes," which I'd never heard before - "Useful Cataloging," by Chris Dodge
Chris is a guru of all things alternative press and also a former Sandynista (those who worked with Sandy Berman in the cataloging department at Hennepin County Public Library) - "What Is Going on at the Library of Congress?" by Thomas Mann
Tom is probably the leading reference librarian advocate for cataloging in this country - "Teaching the Radical Catalog," by Emily Drabinski
Rad Reffie and one of the best updaters I know on Facebook - "Drawing Reference Librarians into the Fold," by Dana M. Caudle and Cecilia M. Schmitz
cuz, you know, I'm a reference librarian who cares about cataloging
But where is KR's piece? What's up--you can edit it, but you can't write it?!? In case it needs to be said, I am KIDDING. Conceiving of and wrangling a project like this one, and also like his last book, Revolting Librarians Redux, is totally awesome and one fuckload of work, not to mention a creative endeavor.

Your tags are making me
Your tags are making me laugh because they seem the tiniest bit random. Well, at least I got one!

Also, I'll have you know
Also, I'll have you know that I wrote a very moving 4-page preface to the book. I'm sure it will be cited in syllabi for years to come!
