I hereby ask you to support the Orderly Disorder: Librarian Zinesters in Circulation tour this summer. I’ll be traveling by Zine Mobile from New Orleans to Milwaukee, with seven stops in between, spreading the zine library gospel.
The gospel I’ll be spreading, by reading from my personal zine and reading log Lower East Side Librarian, is about creating, collecting, and preserving alternative points of view, do-it-yourself (DIY) style and by making zines available in libraries, adding them to academic and lay conversations on a tremendous range of topics.
Barnard’s zines are by girls and women (cisgender and trans) who write about political activism, crushes, cutting, fat pride, loneliness, self-defense, coming out, and many other subjects, all in their own words, unmediated by journalists, unedited by corporate publishers, as angry, as ugly, as vulnerable, and as against popular opinion as they want to be.
My library doesn’t need your money, though. The tour does. I’m asking you to kick in a few bucks, a gas card, or food to remind me that you believe in this work, my zine, me -- or for any reason that moves you.
We take PayPal and can also accept checks, made out to Debbie Rasmussen and mailed to PO Box 250, Rosemount, MN 55068.
