I heart Wikimedia Commons. It's my first and usually only-stop shopping for "freely usable media files" when I'm making webpages for the library research classes I teach. (Not all the course guides listed on the previous link were made by me.) The media files are generally in the public domain or Creative Commons licensed, but like any other wiki, the editing is a free for all.
Just now I discovered the Posters, which let me tell you are dee-lish!
Six I'm considering for an Intro to Comparative Politics Class:
- "Liberty Bound or Liberty Bond? U Can Change It" from World War I
- Inseperables from the Spanish Civil War
- "DESTROY THIS MAD BRUTE" from World War II
- "Here Are the Liberators" from Italy during WWII
- WWII Homefront poster
- "I Pledge Allegiance and Silence about the War" (WWII)
Yowza! We think things are bad now, but sheesh, there sure was some overt racism from the government and expectations of obedience of its citizenry.
Which one do you think I should choose?
btw I can't remember from where I first learned of this site. Probably the Librarian in Black, but it was a couple few years ago, and I can't find the entry without more effort than I'm willing to put in at the moment.
