Library of Congress Subject Headings Weekly List 21 (May 27, 2009)
(C) 150 Bottles in literature [Not Subd Geog] [sp2009005082]
The warrant is too dull to report here. Look it up yourself if you really want to know, but what interests me is that they cite WOMEN IN LITERATURE as the pattern for this heading. Could they not have come up with something a little more similar to a bottle, i.e. not equated women with objects?
* 150 College catalogs CANCEL [sp 85020908]
* 682 This authority record has been deleted because the heading is covered by the subject heading Universities and colleges Curricula Catalogs (sh2002012107).
I'm thinking this is a change for the worse, but I do like that unlike Barnard, they use the American spelling of the word "catalog." It's not that I'm all rah-rah American, Anglophilia just gets on my nerves.
150 Administrative procedure [May Subd Geog] [sp 85000919]
* 450 UF Regulatory reform
150 Deregulation [May Subd Geog] [sp 86007789]
* 450 UF Regulatory reform
150 Trade regulation [May Subd Geog] [sp 85136505]
* 450 UF Regulatory reform
Notice a theme here?
(A) 150 Hierarchies in literature [Not Subd Geog] [sp2009004850]
In case if like me, you had to know, the warrant is Killing Time: Waiting Hierarchies in the Twentieth-Century German Novel
(C) 150 Manx fiction (English) [May Subd Geog] [sp2009004951]
450 UF English fiction—Isle of Man
550 BT Manx literature (English)
Who knew that Manx was the descriptor for Isle of Man?!? But omg is it a little confusing that MANX FICTION (ENGLISH) is used for ENGLISH FICTION—ISLE OF MAN, but that MANX LITERATURE (ENGLISH) is considered a broader term for it. Must be a nuance of FICTION vs. LITERATURE that a reference librarian can't be expected to understand.
150 Naval pottery [May Subd Geog] [sp 85090399]
* 680 Here are entered works on pottery used on ships.
* 450 UF Pottery, Naval CANCEL
* 550 BT Pottery
I know, I was disappointed, too. I wanted this to be NAVEL POTTERY, or pottery made by people in the Navy. I swear some of those military types need a hobby!
(C) 150 Rogue waves [May Subd Geog] [sp2003001089]
* 450 UF Extreme ocean waves
* 450 UF Extreme waves
* 450 UF Giant waves
Is this a scientific term? Both ROGUE and EXTREME sound a little vernacular to me. GIANT, too, but not quite as pop culture-y.
(C) 150 Spotted lady beetle [May Subd Geog] [sp2009005077]
053 QL596.C65 (Zoology)
450 UF Coleomegilla maculata
450 UF Pink spotted lady beetle
450 UF Twelve spotted lady beetle
550 BT Coleomegilla
Really? No reference to LADYBUGS, or even COCCINELLIDAE?
(C) 150 Surrealism in mass media [Not Subd Geog] [sp2009005081]
550 BT Mass media
Amen.

Even Barnard goes American
Even Barnard goes American with their URL.
And: I was looking for Naval Navel Pottery. Like scrimshaw, But for your belly button. Or made of belly button lint?
Curiously: the wikipedians don't have an oceanographer's synonym for rogue wave either.

Although each element of this comment does make sense individually, taken as a whole, and out of context (in my email inbox), it looked totally wacky. I almost deleted it as spam and banned your IP!
