Did anyone else notice that three of the top ten libraries in the 500,000+ population category and one in the 100,000 in Hennen's American Public Library Ratings 2008 rankings have something in common? That something is zines!
And yet Mr. Hennen failed to observe that little detail. I hope he'll add zines as a criterion next year, especially when the rest of the public libraries with zine collections creep up in the ratings. Four of the thirteen public libraries in the United States that I know to have zine collections are ranked.
Congratulations to
Cuyahoga County PL, #1/500,000+ population
Multnomah County PL, #2/500,000+ population
Baltimore County PL, #5/500,000+ population
Salt Lake City PL, #9/100,000+ population
I see zine collection creators and maintainers Angeline Kapferer and Brooke Young and Clint Watson and Emily-Jane Dawson and Julie Bartel and Laural Winter and Miriam DesHarnais. Congrats, all y'all!
