NOSI, the Nonprofit Open Source Initiative is hosting a training, or really an "untraining," meaning the event's program will be devised at the beginning of the day, based on the attendees' preferences, on using OpenOffice, the open source rival of MS Office. (I wonder if there will be any discussion of the Mac version, NeoOffice.) The event will be held at Google's NYC offices, so there may be some talk about Google docs and the like, as well.
I hope library workers will be interested in this free training because I think it's important that we start offering and providing training on open source software applications at our libraries. We need to get ourselves and our patrons weaned off of sales force driven proprietary software.
Or, if library folk can't attend for the reasons I think you should, maybe you will do it because you're curious about open source, which is all the buzz in library land right now. This is a great chance to learn about one powerful set of tools and how the whole open source thing works. And aren't you curious to see the Google campus?
