Columbia University cataloger Alexandra Crosier has launched a local library events blog, Shelved @ NYC.
Alex provides annotated listings of NYC library news, events, and politics. Maybe because she's a cataloger, the site is really well organized, with the blog entries on the left and on the right listings of events and workshops, meta stuff and subscription info, a local blog roll (thanks for listing Radical Reference Alex!), links to NYC libraries divided by type, NYC resources, LIS programs, and then her blog archive. It also looks really nice, especially since it's a Blogspot site. I wish the one we do at Barnard was one tenth as lovely. (Ours is primarily for internal use, which is a good excuse for the fact that I don't bother much with it!)
I find it notable that although Alex works across the street from me at Columbia, I only know her because of Facebook, and I believe we first met at Urban Librarians Unite.
Well, that's all because my new idea is that I'll do shorter blog posts and theoretically more of them.
