In a letter to the Cataloging Policy & Support Office dated April 30, 2009, Sandy Berman recommended that the following headings be added to the record for The Lorax:
ECO-POETRY
INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION--POETRY
GREED--POETRY
GROWTH (ECONOMICS)--POETRY
ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION--POETRY
UNNECESSARY THINGS--POETRY
He also suggests some cross references:
GROWTH (ECONOMICS)
UF Biggering (Economics)
UF Getting bigger (Economics)
ECO-POETRY would have to be established as a subject heading (UF Ecological poetry and Environmental poetry, BT Poetry), as would UNNECESSARY THINGS (UF Things, Unnecessary; Unnecessary products, and Unneeded things, BT Consumption (Economics), Products, and Property.
They'd also have to take up his earlier suggestion of INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION.
All of this occurred to Mr. Berman after he read the story to a third-grade class in honor of Earth Day.
How you could anyone possibly not love Sandy Berman?!?
