Protagonist Waverly Camdenmar is a miserable popular kid. Marshall Holt is a miserable burnout. Somehow their misery and/or a magic candle connect them, teleporting Waverly to wherever Marshall is when she burns the candle setting a mood to help her cure her wicked insomnia.
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to like Waverly, but when she makes classist, girl-hating observations about her rival, it's hard.
Heather McIntire is in all the general-track classes at school and is exactly the kind of girl who wraps herself around boys like Marshall--too much eyeliner, not enough skirt.
