I found this because someone posted or referenced the author’s great Ten Rules for Fat Girls, and I saw on her site that she writes vampire novels. Protagonist Miranda Grey isn’t fat, but when she’s thin its viewed as a sign of poor physical and mental health.
QoS isn’t the best written paranormal fiction you’ll ever read, but it’s plenty compelling if you stick with it a while. Steer clear if you’re triggered by depictions of rape or can’t tolerate regular decapitations. The gist is that Austin musician Miranda Grey, who is suffering the effects of unidentified and trained psychic powers, has a bad thing happen to her, and meets a powerful vamp who helps her recover. The boy gets/loses/gets girl back thing is going on, and there are other good characters along the way.
I tried to order the next in the series, Shadowflame, but fuckin’ NYPL bounced back my ILL request because the postal address I entered doesn’t match the one they have on file. Apparently I can only make the change in person. WHAT DOES MY POSTAL ADDRESS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING WHEN I’M PICKING THE BOOK UP AT THE LIBRARY? If I can log in, I’m me, even if I haven’t updated my postal, which is irrelevant for all reasons other than my proving my right to have borrowing privileges at NYPL, which both addresses verify. IRRITATING.
