Suma does magic realism as well as any non-Latin American, and Imaginary Girls is as creative and elegant as you might want it to be, and yet...I got tired of the conceit about halfway through.
The summary is--a pair of sisters, half-sisters actually, are a codependent dyad, where the older one, Ruby, while seemingly slavishly devoted to the younger Chloe, is also solipsistic boss of the whole town, including Chloe, who is supposedly exempt.
