It's the fault of my Facebook 50 Books in 2013 group and specifically my smart, feminist, zine friend Caitlin that I powered through the first and then second books in the Pretty Little Liars series in a large, rotund hurry. I mean who could resist this tantalizing write up: "Pretty Little Liars by I forget. It's been a long time since I had so thoroughly enjoyed such an objectively terrible book."?
Since there's almost no chance any of my [three or so] regular readers have read the books, though I do know that one of you has been watching the show, the basic premise is that four former friends are being haunted by someone who may or may not be the dead leader of their former friendship. She's got secrets on all of the girls from when they were all best buds in seventh grade that keep them from sharing information with each other or anyone else.
The girls, now juniors in high school, are privileged and accomplished. The book is description-thick with high end brand names and details about clothing and accessories.
I downloaded the second book from NYPL as soon as I finished the first one. I'm rather amazed that they all seem to be available as ebooks, though there's a huge hold list for each of the print versions.

Oh, that looks neat. I'll have to give it a shot and find out what you mean by "odd."
