High school junior Alix has been dating the Big Lesbian on Campus, Swanee, for six weeks when former picture-of-health Swanee drops dead during her morning run. Alix is devastated, and impulsively nicks Swanee's cell phone from the hospital bag of clothes and belongings. Alix quickly discovers an unknown chica texting amor messages to her dead girlfriend. The sender apparently doesn't know about Swanee's death...or certain aspects of her life.
As it turns out, Swanee was a bit of a cad, two-timing her ladies, also manipulating and isolating them from their friends. Alix and Liana have that in common, and things build from there.
I liked Peters's Keeping You a Secret okay, but wasn't all that into Lies. The girl-meets/loses/gets back-girl story doesn't hold any surprises. There's not much going on with Alix, personality-wise, Liana is too perfect, and the other business feels forced.
