It's 1996, and Hannah's grandmother has Alzheimer's and her straight-girl best friend/object of her affection Liz always dumps Hannah when there's a new boy in her life. With Liz's latest squeeze, Joel, comes Hannah's revelation that she's a lesbian. It comes out at a slumber party and then at an LGBT support group where Hannah is shocked to find her competition for valedictorian, Philip.
It's a sweet, fun, readable story with a few surprises and a few not-surprises, since that's how a lot of teen books unfold. Oh, and Hannah's whole life change starts with a zine.
