Content warning: if you have ever loved an animal, this book could make you cry your face off. That's what happened to me, anyway. There is a rainbow bridge. You need to know that before you pick this book up and start to get attached.
If you can handle a little emotional upheaval, you will be glad you read Fetch. It is a beautiful story of a dog and her girl. Georges is a girl when she meets Beija, and from the beginning, that dog causes trouble. There is family strife, teen drama, and a forced relocation.
Beija, who is a little...skittish...awakens wisdom and empathy in her human. Georges takes care of Beija physically and emotionally, while growing up herself. I'm not great at writing about the graphic elements of the story, so I'll just say Georges's illustrations are simultaneously bold and cute. You admire her as much as you worry about her and her struggles.
