So Yale-bound Allee isn't as Yale-bound as she'd like to be because her family is too rich for financial aid and too poor for the Ivy League...until she gets discovered in a model search at a mall. Before hitting the Miami casting scene Allee, who is of Jewish and Cuban distraction, is nerdy and not at all interested in fashion.
Braless is reasonably compelling but not unlike Allee's nickname for her fashion-obsessed popular younger sister, "The Fluff." The big, tough decision Allee has to make at the end of the book is an unsatisfying conclusion. Still, read it to see what modeling life is like (as perceived and depicted by a former modeling agency booker): backstabbing! substance abuse! gay men!
