Summer of Fear

I must have read this before because the plot twist was clear to me from the very beginning. In 2011 Duncan updated her 1976 novel to include cell phones and whatever other little things. Protagonist Rachel is a teenager in the southwest the summer her newly-orphaned cousin arrives at her house, and steals her family and boyfriend. No one believes her that there's something odd about Julia.
