As sometimes happens, I got attached to protagonist Julia Bonatti after reading the first installment in the Zodiac Mysteries, The Madness of Mercury. This time Bonatti's connection to mysterious murder is her best friend from college, Geneva. There's hella intrigue in Geneva's family, as it turns out.
San Franciscans will enjoy the local references, as Bonatti drives her red car through the Presidio, the Mission, Union Square, North Beach and other neighborhoods. Even I recognized where she was some of the time. I enjoyed the second zodiac novel as much as the first, but I had a little difficulty following it, as there were two or three too many characters floating around. I couldn't keep straight who was the brother-in-law and who was the brother most of the time.
