As I shared on a friend's FridayReads post, I found Here Comes the Sun to be a Great Book, but sort of a tedious read. I have a hard time with unlikeable and unreliable narrators, and oh golly, our primary protagonist is complicated. Maybe it was an extra hard read because in the book everything is terrible, and in the world everything is terrible. Maybe that's the point, ignorant American!
Dennis-Benn is a beautiful writer who can paint a picture with images like this one,
Alphonso is pacing as he gives orders, looking like a boy balancing a crown on his head while walking a tightrope.
I think that got to me so much because of Prince John the Phony King of England.
