Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens

I wanted to like this drag king book more than I did. There's a girl-meets-girl, a friendship story, an unlikely friendship, and phrases like "Christ with cramps," but there's also a magical Negro and a protagonist everyone loves for no explicable reason. 

I hope someone who loved this book will tell me why they did and that I'm wrong.
