* 550 BT Exploitation CANCEL
* 550 BT Piracy CANCEL
* 550 RT Biotechnology—Patents CANCEL
* 550 RT Traditional ecological knowledge—Law and legislation
In case you're curious, the scope note is: "Here are entered works on the commercial development and patenting of naturally occurring biological materials, or indigenous biological knowledge, by technologically advanced countries or organizations, without fair compensation to the indigenous groups or nations where the materials or knowledge were originally discovered."
Why would they cancel the Broader Terms Exploitation and Piracy?
(C) 150 Body image in girls [May Subd Geog] [sp2009008866]
550 BT Girls—Psychology
Thank you University of Washington cataloger for assigning this heading, belatedly perhaps, to the 1976 dissertation The formulation of a Q-sort to assess body-image of high school girls. Per WorldCat, it's currently held at 108 institutions. On microfiche. Whatevs; I'll definitely use the subject heading.
(C) 150 Bowling for girls [May Subd Geog] [sp2009008872]
450 UF Girls' bowling
550 BT Games for girls
550 BT Sports for girls
They do know this can be read two different ways, right? Also warranted by a thesis (this one from 1969) and cataloged at U.W. How cool is that, that U.W. is seemingly on a retrospective cataloging spree?
(A) 150 Cookery (Sourdough) [sp 85032118]
* 550 RT Sourdough starter
I really thought they were done with Cookery. Come on SACO, decide to do the not embarrassing thing already!

* 360 SA subdivision Effect of global warming on under individual animals and groups of animals and individual plants and groups of plants, e.g. Fishes Effect of global warming on; Corn Effect of global warming on
I can't wait to start applying --Effect of global warming on at will. I wonder how hard they tried to find a way of making Effect of WHATEVER on type statements without ending with a preposition. I bet that conversation—or series of conversations—was some good times!

Cuz you know I can't resist a large number of Used Fors (Fudge duck!), especially when I can dress up the entry with a Creative Commons licensed photograph.
(A) 150 Gender identity in the Bible [sp2009008765]
053 BS 1199.G36 (Old Testament)
Again with the "the bible." The warrant, In scripture: the first stories of Jewish sexual identities. Here's the table of contents:
Knowledge and nakedness : Eve in the garden of signs -- Sarah's laughter : matriarchal incoherence and the vexed sign of woman -- Passing as a man : patriarchal gender performances -- Leah behind the veil : sex with sisters from the Bible through Woody Allen -- Coats and tales : Joseph and myths of Jewish masculinity -- Miriam's fluid identity -- Bedrooms and battlefields : command performances of femininity -- Other boundary crossings : of talking beasts and bodies fragmented -- Oy! was that a close call : Ruth and the fundamental Jewish story.
Sounds like some fun stuff!

150 Subject headings [May Subd Geog] [sp 85129426]
* 450 UF Controlled vocabularies CANCEL
Ooh—meta! But why the cancellation, dudes? They still seem awfully controlled to me. I think they killed Controlled vocabularies altogether and are using Thesauri (Controlled vocabularies) instead. Is that right, LC Watch watchdogs?

Interestingly, there still is
Interestingly, there still is no established heading Controlled vocabularies, even though the editorial minutes said that they would establish it:
"Since the concept of structured or controlled vocabularies is broader than that of subject headings, the proposed UFs were not approved. The existing UF Controlled vocabularies will be removed from this heading, and the heading Controlled vocabularies will be established."
