Library of Congress Subject Headings Weekly List 15 (April 15, 2009)
(A) 150 Celebrities' pets [May Subd Geog] [sp2009002974]
550 BT Pets
I don't fault LC for adopting this heading, but I do think it's a sad statement about American culture. The warrant: Kinky's Celebrity Pet Files, which is a whole 'nother thing. Kinky Friedman is a musician (with his band, the Texas Jewboys), mystery book writer, and wannabe politician. Ergo, this book, probably satire, might be interesting reading. And the heading might possibly be off the mark. I wonder if the cataloger had the book in hand? It's surely CIP, as the book doesn't come out until October.
(C) 150 Child celebrities [May Subd Geog] [sp2009002841]
550 BT Celebrities
Is this really new? As far as I can tell from the record, it is, which I think is kind of weird, don't you?
(C) 150 Indian men [May Subd Geog] [sp2009002823]
550 BT Men
They have a cross reference to MEN, but not to INDIANS or INDIANS OF NORTH AMERICA? That seems strange to me.
This week's cross reference award goes to...

(A) 150 Tricksters in motion pictures [Not Subd Geog] [sp2009003000]
053 PN1995.9.T78
550 BT Motion pictures
(A) 150 Tricksters on television [Not Subd Geog] [sp2009002999]
550 BT Television
What? No scope note? Do we all just know what "tricksters" means? By the time LC adopts a term it's already hopelessly outdated. Unless it's the new thing? Not even the main TRICKSTERS heading has a note, but the see alsos to FOLKLORE MAGICIANS and SWINDLERS AND SWINDLING I guess give you the idea.
