Literary Magazines Go Electronic: Now Where’s the Print Edition in the Library? National Book Critics Circle panel at Housing Works Thursday, September 13 at 7p.
126 Crosby Street, between Houston & Prince.
I have two friends on the panel:
Karen Gisonny, who is essentially the head of serials at NYPL and who is also responsible for their zine collection. She is a super expert on alternative press.
Susan Thomas, who started the zine collection at Pratt Institute. She has an MFA in creative writing, in addition to her MLS and quite the expert on small art and literary publications.
This panel seems to have been inspired by someone thinking or seeing that libraries are ditching print version of literary journals in favor of their electronic counterparts. I find it kind of hard to believe that librarians are doing that with this kind of publication, since they tend to have visual/artistic elements and because I don't think people want to read their poems online.
I hope librarians will go there to give Karen and Susan their support. Me? I'll be on the reference desk until 9pm.
