My last two posts were really long. This one will be short. Ride the City = Awesome!
This is a mapping tool similar to HopStop that identifies bicycle routes in three flavors: safest, safe, and most direct.
The site allows for feedback and was "built almost exclusively from open source software and tools," and finally has a really cute about page. So yay!
Thanks to Kim Asa for the link.

Yes, this is a great site!
Yes, this is a great site! I heard about it on WNYC the other day. However, human behavior (among other things) will be the major factor in whether a bike commute is safe or not. This includes fellow cyclists -- last week, going home from work, I stopped for a light on the cracked and uneven asphalt at Glenwood Rd and Flatbush Ave and had some helmetless doofus riding the wrong way grunt, "Move, stupid!" as he barely squeezed between me and a parked SUV.

Good point, but this is New York. The assholes are everywhere! It would be funny, though, if you could add asterisks to the parts of the map where the asshole factor was particularly high. Maybe * for pedestrian assholes, ** for cyclists, and *** for hella dangerous motorist assholes.
