This is not a free speech zone for spammers and trolls.

If I interpret your comment to be spam, I will do one of the following

  • If the product you're pimping is compelling, I'll leave it be.
  • If the content of it is interesting, but not the product, I'll delete your URL but leave the comment.
  • If there is nothing redeeming about it, I will delete your comment and ban your IP from posting again.

A troll, to me, is someone with whom I have no context (not a friend, librarian, fellow traveler in some way) who makes hostile comments. I may or may not let it go for an exchange or two, depending on my mood.

Even if the person and I do share a context, if I interpret his/her motivation to be aggressive, rather than cooperative, I'll still regard him/her as a troll and kill comments I find unhelpful.
